The Science Council is aiming to increase its understanding of the current and future UK science workforce

Current projects are exploring the numbers of scientists working in the UK, where they are working, workforce diversity, skills needs and shortages, professional development needs as well as developing a better understanding of the variety of the roles undertaken by those with science knowledge and skills

This research was comissioned by the Science Council as part of the New Registers project to investigate the potential for new professional registers for science technicians and those in science and higher technical roles in addition to the existing Chartered Scientist register

100 leading practising scientists

Competition highlighting the rich and diverse range of science jobs. The list identifies individual scientists who have demonstrated a commitment to the practice of science with integrity, professional skill and judgement and leadership.
