Project to raise young peoples’ awareness of career opportunities available from studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).
The science community has long recognised the need for better STEM careers information for school students. As such the Science Council is leading a collaborative project to tackle this need:
Careers from Science is a primarily web-based initiative to engage young people and encourage them to appreciate why they study science and maths in school and to understand the breadth of opportunities that are available from studying STEM. The project aims to build an awareness of the skills developed by studying science and maths and how they help keep options open. It aims to ensure that students have the right information to hand when choosing subject combinations with a primary audience of 11-19 year olds but we also aiming to reach their influencers; teachers, careers advisers and parents.
Careers from Science builds on an initial research project which scoped the need for such a resource and the content that would be required, see downloadable documents for the research outcomes and more detailed project background information. The initial research was made possible by contributions from the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Royal Society and the Institute of Physics.

As part of Careers from Science good quality careers material, new and existing, has been bought together to produce a website – www.futuremorph.org - with a content and ethos which is strongly audience driven rather than organisation or discipline driven. The Future Morph website went live on the 4th November 2008 and the initial build was supported by a number of organisations including the Department for Children, Schools and Families, The Wellcome Trust and the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry .
The website and surrounding projects continue to grow and new partners are always welcome, for further information please contact Nicola Hannam or download the documents on the right.
