CSciTeach recognises professional expertise in science teaching and learning.

The CSciTeach register recognises professional excellence in science teaching and learning. Initially developed through close collaboration between the Science Council and the Association for Science Education, the register is now available through the Royal Society of Chemistry and Society of Biology alongside ASE. CSciTeach is a single benchmark for teaching excellence across schools, colleges, higher education and other settings.

The CSciTeach standards describe those teachers who can demonstrate:

  • the broader knowledge and understanding which provides the underpinning base for practice in the sector and its impact
  • impact related to the development of effective teaching and learning strategies, including those which contribute to enhancing the quality of the educational experience of students and to the wider professional context of Science Education
  • the overarching principles that characterise professional autonomy and relate to self evaluation, collegial activity, personal responsibility and leadership
  • a commitment to codes of conduct and continuing professional development
