The Science Council reponds to the Select Committee inquiry into practical experiments in school science lessons and field trips

The Science Council’s evidence submission to the House of Commons Science & Technology Select Committee inquiry identifies the importance of practical work as a key role in providing opportunities to develop knowledge and understanding of key concepts in science, and enhancing understanding and improving engagement in science in schools.

The response also goes on to say that practical and technical are skills integral to science and vital for science employers, and practical activities and field work provides valuable real life context for multi-disciplinary learning. The inclusion of hands on experience is of particular importance for learners who may consider a future working in science, and to help young people develop their career preferences.
