Science for Careers Expert Group
Chaired by Diana Garnham this is one of the five expert groups set up by the Department for Innovation and Skills (BIS) to take forward the science and society strategy
The five groups each published an Action Plan in early 2010 and these can be found on the links below.
Diana Garnham chaired the Science for Careers Expert Group and is leading the follow-on work arising from the Action Plan.
These projects are;
- Exploring the potential for web based activities in partnership with parent groups
- A conference for those involved in science careers awareness and information (Read the conference report here (pdf 4MB))
- Raising the visibility of SMEs as STEM employers
- Review the availability of web based role models and case studies, set out good practice and establish a database of resources
- Portraying STEM skills and employability skills
- Research on demand and supply of undergraduate work related experience and sandwich years
- Broadening volunteering and mentoring opportunities
- A pilot project seeking to raise awareness of hidden science
In addition to the above projects we plan to report progress on other areas of the Action Plan. The research reports and other activities will also be reported here.
